Last night I attended a City Guide event for NYC Hotel concierge's and had an amazing evening of food and theatre! We had yummy pre-theatre sirloin, cocktails and much more complements of Del Frisco's. Afterwards we were off to The Lyceum to see the new Broadway show "The Scottsboro Boys", officially opening October 31st. The show was absolutely fabulous! What I'm about to say is going to sound odd, but just believe me; the show had this amazing ability to be funny and fun, while telling a very serious and sad story without detracting from the overall gravity of the story. The show is about nine young African American men who were wrongly accused of a crime against two white women, which ultimately lead to rage across the US, sparking the Civil Rights Movement. Told as a minstrel show, these men do an praise worthy performance with standout work (in my opinion) by Joshua Henry and the young Jeremy Gumbs. If you live in the New York Metro area, do yourself a favor and see "Scottsboro Boys", you won't be disappointed!
