Jessica's "Daily Affirmation"

I was reading my friend Sam's Blog, Sammy Skye, and saw this adorable "daily affirmation" video from youtube. It brought a smile to my face and made my week much brighter! It's already shaping up to be a good week! Thanks Sam! Much love!

Halloween

I've been known to hate Halloween (for anyone over the age of 12) and I strongly dislike the idea of dressing up. Well, I cracked... kind of. Do you like my lovely homemade mustache? I was french! Oui! My friend Rebecca and I had a lovely french dinner, with french wine, french berets, and french mustaches! hehehe hon hon hon. Les poissons. That's all I know in french :-)

Project Runway Season 8 Finale 10/28/10

UGH, so disappointed with Project Runway Finale. I had to DVR it, and only got to watch it last night. I LOVE Mondo, LOVED his clothes, and definitely thought he had it in the bag. Not only did I think Gretchen had a bad attitude, her clothes I found blah. Rock on Mondo! I'll buy your ab fab clothes!

Did you see the finale? What did you think?

Latest Obsession

I'm kind of obsessed with all things 1950s early 1960s. We see influences of it everywhere these days. Hence my latest obsession with Rex Kelly's furniture collection. Isn't it so great? I could totally see myself owning a piece, couldn't you? I have the pleasure of knowing Mr. Kelly and on top of making awesome furniture he's such a nice, sweet, down to earth guy. You should check out his stuff and make it your latest obsession!

Rose and Thorn

It's that time of the week again. Rose and thorn. I can't seem to pinpoint my thorn of the week; except to sum it up as a series of not so great incidents...one after another... multiple days in a row. We've all had those kind of weeks, right? The kind where you just sit on a bench and cry and don't quite care who sees you. All those tiny things that appeared to be so major, turned out not to be that big of deal in the end and seemed to melt away when I came home to a smiling fiance and a pristine home. There's something so great about knowing that no matter what happens at the end of the day we have each other. Sometimes a clean home, a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and alil' tv/snuggie time can fix it all. The way I see it, the week can only get better, right?

Have a happy Thursday ;-)

What's your rose and thorn of the week?

Amazing Theatre

Last night I attended a City Guide event for NYC Hotel concierge's and had an amazing evening of food and theatre! We had yummy pre-theatre sirloin, cocktails and much more complements of Del Frisco's. Afterwards we were off to The Lyceum to see the new Broadway show "The Scottsboro Boys", officially opening October 31st. The show was absolutely fabulous! What I'm about to say is going to sound odd, but just believe me; the show had this amazing ability to be funny and fun, while telling a very serious and sad story without detracting from the overall gravity of the story. The show is about nine young African American men who were wrongly accused of a crime against two white women, which ultimately lead to rage across the US, sparking the Civil Rights Movement. Told as a minstrel show, these men do an praise worthy performance with standout work (in my opinion) by Joshua Henry and the young Jeremy Gumbs. If you live in the New York Metro area, do yourself a favor and see "Scottsboro Boys", you won't be disappointed!

Gnocchi

I am a huge fan of Italian food, and an even bigger fan of gnocchi! When in college I spent a semester living in Rome, Italy where my love for Italian cooking become even more intense. Needless to say, while reading the Sunday Times, this article popped out at me. I think it looks worth giving it a try, don't you think?

Today's Mantra

Having a rough and bus sort of day today. Grin and bear it is what they say, right? So today this is my mantra, "Keep Calm and Carry On"

:-)

Hope you're having a happy weekend!

Ceramic feminine hand

Slightly creepy, but I'm kind of digging this ceramic hand for jewelry storage. I think it'd add some funky style to anyone's vanity. Check out other off beat decorating at Urban.

Kate Spade

I just love Kate Spade, it exudes such a fun and carefree spirit. I feel like I'm in a chic, fun, New York City party every time I go into one of their stores. Check out Kate Spades London Pop-up Shop. So cute! I want to be there, don't you?!

Don't these fall soups look so yummy?! I'd love to try my hand at them sometime in the coming weeks. Check out how to make them on Hooray.

Halloween....boo!

While yes, Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, Halloween well.... I hate. I love the decorative pumpkins, little kids dressed in costumes, squash inspired dishes, and spiked apple cider; but something just seems inherently wrong with a bunch of adults parading around in costumes. Most are surprised when learning this fact about me, mainly my fiance and future sister in law, given that I'm an actor. Maybe someday I'll come around, but for now I think I'll take my glass of red wine, my couch, and MadMen (I just got into season 1!). Are you being anything fun for Halloween?

Save The Date

I'm excited to present to you our Save The Date! What do you think? Does it look like us? Kind of? haha. Remember one of my latest obsessions, well I thought it'd be great to create a Save The Date in a similar fashion. Our wedding is going to be small, relaxed, and in Brooklyn. We're trying not to take ourselves too seriously, and cartoon avatars are definitely relaxed and fun. Yay, about 8 more months to go!

In Love

I can't seem to get over my Alice + Olivia obsession. Remember these cute dresses? I spotted the one above on the Sak's website. Is that special time of year, friends and family! You save 20% on all web orders. I'd love to wear one of these for perhaps my bridal shower or rehearsal dinner. What do you think? Which one do you like the best?

Latest Obsession

I'm mildly obsessed with The Container Store. If you have never been, don't walk, RUN! It's amazing, they have containers for pretty much ANYTHING in your life. I recently stopped by and found these cute little packages. Wouldn't it be a creative way to give someone a gift? I think they're so cute?! I love the Tiffany blue ones!

Holiday cheer

After work a couple days ago, I stumbled into Crate and Barrel to have a look around. I just love the warm cozy feeling of Crate and Barrel. While strolling the store I noticed their winter holiday merchandise was out, and I immediately had flashes of hot chocolate and decorating the Christmas tree. I know, I know I'm crazy for wishing winter upon us, but I'm a sucker for holiday decor, Christmas movies and winter cheer. I can't wait until Thanksgiving in Pittsburgh this year, when my family and I can start the season with Christmas Vacation. Classic.
Gobble Gobble, ho ho ho.

Watch THE SOCIAL NETWORK Trailer

Last night my friend Rebecca and I being the super cool, trend setting, social butterflies that we are, decided to go to the movies to see The Social Network. I'm sure a number of you are hearing the Oscar buzz, as well as the Justin Timberlake Oscar buzz. bzzzz bzzzz. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and can most definitely see a "Best Picture" buzz. The Justin Timberlake buzz on the other hand....not so much. Yeah sure, he delivered a decent performance for a pop star turned actor, but was it Oscar worthy? I shall say not. Never the less, it was a great film and would definitely recommend seeing it. Check out the trailer above.

Cool Video

Check out this cool video by Arcade Fire. You put in the street address where you grew up and it creates a music video specialized to you! Very cool. Give it a shot.

Confidence boost

You've seen the wonderbra, the booty pads, spanks. Ladies we've used it all! Well, here is alil' something to help the gentlemen out in your lives. It's enhanced underpants for men! One style offers a push up in the rear, while another a boost of confidence in the front! I personally find it rather funny, and couldn't really imagine my fiance actually wearing these. What do you think??

Rose and Thorn

During the few years that I worked in residence life (yes, I've done everything under the sun) I learned a fun little game, that was played among the staff member's during our weekly meeting, called Rose and Thorn. We went around to each staff member and we told our rose and thorn of the week. Well, I'm bringin' it back girlfriends! I like to start with the thorns and end on a happy note :-) Thorn of the week: I dropped my cell phone in the toilet! Thus breaking it! To make matters worse, my agent called right before the fateful accident and said they would call back in a few minutes with the details of my call back! However, have no fear my friends, it all works out in the end. In turn, I have my rose. I was able to communicate via email, and I got the call back and booked the gig! I recorded a voiceover for a commercial for Bath and Body Works. You'll have to keep an eye open for it, or ear rather :-) Oh, and luckily enough I had my phone insured. Moral of the story: Stop taking your phone to the bathroom, don't worry they'll call you when you get out! I promise!

What were your roses and thorns of the week? Prey tell.

Theatre Opening

I love me a theatre opening! I'm fortunate enough to have a few friends that work for some well known theaters in the city, and every now and again I get to enjoy perks....like Broadway theatre openings! Wooohoo! Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Round About Theatre Company's production of "Mrs. Warren's Profession", which is about a young woman, Vivie, who discovers her upbringing and education has been funded by her mother's profession as a brothel owner. Quite the racy topic for the 18th century play by George Bernard Shaw. In fact in 1905, according to The New York Times, police officers closed the production and cited everyone in the cast for disorderly conduct. After the show we were invited to the after party at Espace where we enjoyed cocktails and great company! Sigh. So much fun. I wish I could go to Broadway openings every week.

Bands

Our wedding budget is a bit on the smaller side, so my fiance and I are looking for simple yet tasteful bands. He loves a jeweler called Reinstein and Ross because they hand make everything and tailor each piece to you, while I'm in love with the jeweler where he got my engagement ring. I think it's kind of cool to get bands from two different places. Like our relationship, it shows our individuality, yet how well we go together. Do you or would you get different wedding bands?
