Christmas Treats

My cousin is one of the most thoughtful and kind people I know. She and I grew up much like sisters. I always have and always will consider her a sibling rather than a cousin. Just a couple weeks ago, I received a lovely package on my door step. Something I hold near and dear to my heart. CHOCOLATE! These marshmallow treats were a little bit of heaven. Thanks Christina! Love you! xo

Merry Christmas

Okay so it's not the largest tree on the block, but it has a lot of heart :-) I love how it makes the apartment seem so warm and cozy with the glimmer of twinkle lights in the background while you watch holiday movies or read on the couch. I hope all your shopping is done and tucked under the tree, just a a few short days until Christmas! Ho ho ho. What did you ask Santa to bring you?? Last night my fiance and I went on a double date with our friends to see BAM's Hard Nut. It was definitely a new twist on the old classic with modern costuming and updated story line complete with gender bending costumes, partnering dance moves, and men in point shoes at moments. I definitely LOVE all forms of dance and welcome contemporary dance; however, I prefer to see a performance chalk full of dancing. Hard Nut was more about flashy and funny costumes and laughable pantomime/acting. While it is refreshing to see something different and new, I think I prefer good ole George Balanchine's Nutcracker.

German, ja!

As of late I've been looking up German and Italian wedding traditions as a way for my fiance and me to incorporate our heritage into our wedding day. I have to say one of the funnier German traditions I found is the bride and groom saw the end of a log off immediately following the ceremony to symbolize the first difficult thing they have to work through as a married couple. I laughed at first, but now it sounds kind of fun! Don't you think? Ja vol!

Latest Obsession

Of course, while my mother was in town this past week she made me fall in love with the PERFECT holiday dress at Sak's. You know, the kind of perfect holiday dress that you wear to holiday parties with your fiance. Le sigh. Why do you do such things to me mother? Why?

Gadget friendly Gloves

You're walking down the street in the dead of winter, it's freezing, and your phone rings. Ugh. Then you have to take your hand out of your warm fuzzy glove to answer your touch screen phone. I know you've been there. NOW they have a glove that can eliminate that pesky problem. How cool is that?! Might make a great stocking stuffer this year, or a Christmas gift for yourself!

Around the Inter-web

Hope everyone is having (had) a great weekend. Mine was complete with afternoon tea at the Plaza Hotel with some amazing ladies. (And look who showed up!) And my mom arrives in just a few short hours to spend a few days. I'm excited to do fun holiday things around town. Here are a few goodies from around the web!

My latest guilty pleasure for my subway rides home.

What an amazingly crafty gal! I'd love one (or two!) for my wall.

Just plain cute.

My latest obsession.

A beautiful backyard wedding.

Would make an ab fab addition to any holiday wardrobe.

Dreaming of a few of these! Your thighs will hate you in the New Year.

Too funny!

What a great holiday helper.

Holiday gift ideas...

These holiday gift ideas would be great for the man in your life who is in love with Brooklyn, enjoys a scotch on the rocks, can make a mean cappuccino and is a rock star in the kitchen. Don't be jealous ladies, I'm really describing my fiance. I know. Hot.

Yes, this contraption makes coffee. And is PERFECT for any coffee fan in your life. It's actually called a Siphon and you can get this one for $62.

This great coffee shop, Cafe Grumpy, has amazing coffee. I'm sure he'd love a bag or two.... or three! $16

This Brooklyn book, Brooklyn Diaries, takes a look into the lives of 21 Brooklyn Artists. Great for someone visiting or a die hard Brooklyn-ite.

How cool is this Beer Champagne. A collaboration between Boston Beer Co. and Weihenstephan Brewery.

Five words for you. Brooklyn Brine Whiskey Sour Pickles.

A Charlie Brown Christmas - Christmas Time is Here Song

I was so thrilled we were going to go get our Christmas Tree just a few nights ago. But, I'm sad to report, we totally got a Charlie Brown Christmas tree! Short and slightly bare. Somehow (I'm not quite sure how) my fiance convinced me that our one bedroom Brooklyn apartment was too small for anything larger. I know, I'm an adult, I'm not supposed to care about such things; but I'm not going to lie, I'm slightly disappointed. Next year, I don't care! I'm getting a full sized tree! Maybe I'll have a change of heart after we decorate it this Sunday with its twinkle lights and ornaments.... and of course all done with a large mug of hot coco.

New Year's Resolutions

I'm pretty sure a number of you feel exactly how I do this time of year (or really any month in the year) OVERLOAD. Somehow, no matter how hard I try, my google calendar ends up becoming this scary monster that I'm afraid might eat me! I think in the new year my resolution should be to find a spot, even if its a teeny tiny one, for some down time. I'd also like to take more time to take dance classes. I used to train professionally and is something I really miss doing, so I think Steps is in my future for 2011. What are your New Year's resolutions? I'd love to hear!

East Village Stamp Guy

I love a DIY project! And for our wedding this July, we wanted to personalize our special day as much as possible. So I set out to get a custom stamp made for a little project I have up my sleeve. And as New York City is the land of limitless possibilities just outside your door step, I found Casey Rubber Stamps in the East Village. You can either have one custom made from a personal graphic, or illustration, or choose from his extensive collection! It's the perfect way to jazz up your next DIY project! I'll be sure to share with you our final product!

Latest Obsessions

It's a cold day in New York City today, feeling like it's in the 20s and I spotted a few flurries this morning! Thus, my latest obsession, THE ELECTRIC BLANKET. Yes, the beloved electric blanket probably takes you back to your childhood and memories of your mother telling you not to sit on top or you'll break the coils! fear of leaving it on when you left the house and hoping you weren't the reason your house burnt down, but above all the amazing warmth you felt on those cold winter nights. I haven't had an electric blanket probably since I was 10 years old, and I am now obsessed! Every night I preheat that baby up, and snuggle up for a long winter's nap. hahah okay, go ahead and laugh. I realize what I'm saying sounds a bit absurd and grandma-ish, but I can't help it! I can't wait to go home and snuggie up with my electric blanket and hot coco! What's your latest obsession?!

Amazing Food

I admit it, I'm not much of a Suzy Homemaker when it comes to making dinner. (I always said I'd marry a man who could cook, and I am!) However, we recently received an early Christmas gift from my cousin, this amazing Ad Hoc cook book by Thomas Keller. It makes me want to strap on an apron and spend the day in the kitchen. Maybe with Thomas Keller's recipes and guides to follow I'll be more successful than in the past! Wish me luck!

ps This would make a great gift for the foodie in your life!

Exciting things coming...

I'm extra excited and a tad anxious for a few things coming up this week and this holiday season. First up, tonight is opening night for a showcase I'm in at TheatreLab. I'm in a play called "Speaking to the Dead" that is apart of the Open Frames Festival. Hope all goes well! Second, remember my amazingly talented friend Vanessa at V13 Designs? She's been helping me out with a little project for Kair-ied Away. Can't wait to share it with you! I'm also so very excited it's the holiday season! I can't wait for my fiance and I to pick up our Christmas tree! Happy Holidays! Ho Ho Ho. What about you friend? What's on your mind this chilly winter day?

Do What You Love

You may be familiar with Rifle Paper Company and all of Anna's wonderous illustrations, as she's plastered all over the inter-web and is several blogger's "frequently visited." I recently was perusing her blog and saw this cute clip about doing what you love. I admit, sometimes I find it difficult to follow my dreams with all it's ups and downs, but I'm doing all I can to make my dream a reality; reading Anna's blog and watching the above video gave me the inspiration I needed today. Hope it can inspire you too!

WeekEND Round Up

I am beyond excited to go "home" to Pittsburgh this coming week! The r & r is much needed, and can't wait to see family and friends! Here are a few yummies from around the web this week!

I'm in total hibernation mode and wouldn't even need to leave the house to wear this amazing scarf.

Thinking about wedding cakes for our wedding, and these look great! So pretty!

I watched Oprah's favorite things yesterday, and I must admit I was totally jealous of the audience! I guess my chance has passed.

I guess I'm out of the loop, because I had no idea H&M had high fashion designers design a line once a year. Super cool.

Loving the updated design of one of my fave blogs.

Latest Obsessions

Most bloggers do a weekly round up on Friday, but given my weird schedule, I thought why don't I do my faves from the web during the weekend?! This way Monday morning you have something fun to get you through any case of "the Mondays" you may have. Enjoy!

Would love to make my house look like something out of here.

I have a thing for pillows, would love to give the living room a new vibe.

Doesn't a romantic 5 day get away sound amazing!

I'm guilty. I want to see both this and this.

I want for my wedding day.

I think these would be great for flowers to give a vintage vibe.

Totally going to have this guy make me a custom stamp!

Funky and fun!

Pizza to die for!

I've been dying to go here.

Have a great week! I'm super excited to have my girlfriends Sarah and Sam over on Monday night for Gnocchi night! Hope you have a good one!

(photo Anthology)

TV to die for

I'm addicted. I can't help myself. It's like a secret rendezvous with my television set, every night I turn on the electric blanket and snuggle up for an episode of Mad Men before hitting the hay. Okay, I admit it, I sound like I'm 85, but it's all so glorious as the nights have grown colder. I'm a tad behind, and jumped on the wagon a few seasons late, but I'm catching up! There is something irresistible about the story line, the ridiculously attractive people, and clothing I love. Do you have a latest obsession? Prey tell.

I've been trying to figure out how to do this hair knot for a couple weeks now! Not quite sure I have it down pat. Any bright ideas?

Cold and Cozy Part Deux

How cute is Kate Spade's holiday campaign? I have my eye on a new wallet and business card holder. Maybe Santa will be nice to me and bring me one under my Christmas tree!

(photo Kate Spade)

Cold and Cozy

I can't help it, I know I might be rushing things along a tad, but as soon as the temperature drops my mind floats to being cozy inside with a cup of hot chocolate, Christmas Trees, and Frosty the Snowman. Yesterday I found myself rocking out to Harry Connick Jr. Christmas tunes, and enjoying the glorious return of the eggnog latte at Starbucks! I found this cool site this morning on fun things to enjoy while in New York City during the holidays. Sure, I'm beyond cozy and excited now, but I'm sure come January I'll slip into the winter blues, but for now it's great fun!
